On 12 August 2026 the moon covers most of the sun above Upper Lusatia. Not night — that wrong, tilted light where birds go quiet and insects start up as if someone tampered with the clock. It happens in the evening, low over the hills, and the sun sets while it is still eaten.
Four thousand years ago a Chinese scribe wrote down an eclipse in the plainest words anyone has found for it: the sun has been eaten. People beat drums to frighten the dragon off. The sun came back. It worked every time.
We are not making a viewing appointment out of it. We are making a day you walk through: from a flooded granite quarry, up through forest, onto a mountain, into the night. No festival ground, no barrier between stage and crowd. A lot of people going somewhere together.

Here's what we do to calm the spirits.
The walk — quarry and procession, 16:00 to 18:30 — is a small group and needs registration. Places are limited: write to info@rashomotion.com, soon.
From the eclipse onwards everything is open to all, free, with no registration: the summit from around 18:30, then the concerts at the Naturresort Bieleboh — open-air, with an indoor room if the weather turns.
Meeting point for the observation at Parkplatz Biebeloh (3GJG+GM Beiersdorf). Eye protection is required. A limited number of eclipse glasses will be on site. Don´t look back in anger nor into the eclipse without protection!
We film the whole day as a single continuous take.

The Passage: Running Up That Hill
We set off on foot, up through the forest, about ninety minutes on existing paths. Drums set the pulse — the oldest instrument for this exact occasion. Choral voices carry the path, and Walburga Walde intones Sorbian legends along the way. Figures walk with us who stand between worlds: the witch of the Chodojtypalenje, the Sorbian spring rite, as a threshold-crosser. Two stops at sun sanctuaries — a forest clearing, and the Steinklunsen near Beiersdorf: granite, moss, a cave, someone's shelter.

femmes vocales, the Dresden women's choir, sings. Walburga Walde intones Sorbian legends. Eighty-five percent of the sun is gone, and the light goes wrong. It lasts a few minutes.

The sun goes down still eaten — the moon is still in front of it when it drops behind the horizon. Nothing comes back tonight. We walk down through half-shadow, the way we came.

Concerts while the dark settles. It opens with an accordion scene after Béla Tarr's Werckmeister Harmonies — Valuska conducting the crowd as planets, the eclipse played through in miniature. From there through reduced voices into darker intensities, closing in drone and ambient. Open-air stage, with a covered room if the weather turns. Spherical, intimate, loud. Until it is over. This means that projects developed within SEAR do not end in Schönbach. They continue to move: into presentations in Upper and Lower Lusatia, into partner institutions, festivals, and exhibitions, and into further collaborative formats.
At the same time, SEAR remains rooted in its local context. The work is shaped by the specific conditions of Lusatia — its landscapes, histories, communities, and ongoing transformations — and grows outward from there.
The aim is to create a space where projects can evolve over time: through follow-up invitations, continued collaborations, and the possibility to return, expand, or reconfigure what has been started here.
