The eclipse.academy in Görlitz and Miltitz will accompany you and other participants for two weeks in exploring the rare astronomical event of the partial solar eclipse on August 12, 2026.
Together we will develop new films, installations, and performances — working at the intersections of cinema, sound, science, and ritual. In workshops and labs, we provide tools and space to experiment with film, sound, XR, AI, and storytelling.
As an international community, we learn with and from each other, combining creativity and research in an open process that culminates in a collective Field Day during the eclipse in Miltitz.
No matter what background and level of experience you have, everyone is welcome to join and contribute to this special edition. We are rooted in Lusatia — a region at the crossroads of three countries and home to the Sorbian community — and open our work towards the cosmos.
Together with partners like the German Center for Astrophysics (DZA), CASUS, Cinebus, Meta Solis, Kühlhaus Görlitz, Rabryka and international guests, we create a unique space for cultural, scientific, and creative exchange. Our guiding themes for 2026: cosmologies, darkness, origin, and transformation through film and art.
THE UNIVERSE IS SPEAKING IN NUMBERS
Sommer.Film.Akademie is part of a growing effort to establish an international alliance of independent residencies, summer labs and community-based educational initiatives.
We bring together filmmakers of varying experience levels to create and learn together for two weeks, including learning through hands on workshops, developing material and making films together.
Our home base is Kühlhaus Görlitz, an inspiring place, brimming with creativity and possibility. Centering our activities here also provides us an opportunity to pursue stories that speak to and from the local Lausitz and settlement area of the Sorbians.
We seek to cultivate a dynamic, engaging and international environment that fosters creativity and individual growth.
